Rest House at Taj Mahal

Once the mosque in Taj Mahal was finished; Is a found the platform lacking in harmony: the setting seemed incomplete. To remedy this he built an edifice similar to the mosque at the eastern end, which, because of its position, could serve as a counterbalance; he called it Jawab or the response, that is to say a response to the mosque at the opposite end.

Though, Jawab is similar to the Mosque from the outside. Inside however is slightly different. The Jawab or Naqqar Khana does not contain the impressive array of votive figures and accessories which go with a mosque, and, instead of Quranic inscriptions, there are beautiful floral designs and other decorative motifs effectively done in white marble on the red sandstone background. Though both the mosque and rest house were similar in the building and decoration nothing could interfere with the Taj Mahal's great dome.
